Best of 2015 - 3 Savory + 3 Sweet Spots

Quarters

From the design to the service to the food, Quarters Korean BBQ never disappoints us. Quarters is run by the relatives of the owners of Kang Ho-Dong Baekjeong, the kbbq restaurant right across from it in the same plaza. What we enjoy the most at Quarters are the beef tongue and rib-eye. Dip the crispy beef tongue into the lemon juice and cook the rib-eye medium rare. Before you head on over to Quarters, do note that there is usually a long wait for this popular and hip kbbq spot, which may take up to 2 hours during the weekends. But hey, who cares about a little wait when you are about to savor the most delectable meat and enjoy a fun night with your friends? Tip: There is a bar and some outdoor seating area where you can chitchat with your friends before you hop into the kbbq world.

République

Needlessly to say, République is one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles. The restaurant is located in a Spanish-style brick building with a famous history, having been built in 1929 by Charlie Chaplin. Everything from the interior to the food is Instagram-friendly. It is very common to have someone sitting next to you taking pictures of the food as well as the decor. If I can make a short list of the most Instagram-friendly restaurants, République would definitely be on that list. In terms of the food, everything on the menu is amazing. In fact, I am just about ready to drive back to the restaurant now.

Mokkoji

Now is the perfect weather to enjoy hot pot. If you have been following us for some time, you should already have bookmarked Mokkoji by now. What we enjoy the most there is the Washimi Wagu, a Kobe-style beef. The high quality ingredients at Mokkoji are not easily found at other places. What are you waiting for? Head on over to Mokkoji, choose your own broth and let the beef melt in your mouth.

Churros Calientes

Yes, you can find Spanish churros in Los Angeles! Only at Churros Caliente can you order rich, delicate, thin, and crispy Spanish churros filled and topped with different homemade flavors – chocolate, strawberry and dulce de leche. The only problem is that every flavor is so good, it’s hard for me to pick a favorite. Tip: Try getting the churros with a scoop of ice cream on the side. Ice cream always makes things taste better. They also have a food truck in Downtown LA. Best Churros in Town.

Café 86

Have you ever tried Halo Halo Bread pudding with ube ice cream? It is a warm blonde base top with creamy ube ice cream. It consists of sweet bananas, jackfruit, beans, and coconut gel that is toppid with icy mlik slush, ube jam and faln. You can find this Filipino dessert at Café 86, which is located in Pasadena, and Chino. It is very unique and not too sweet. A combination of warm and cold creates a perfection. Trust me, you will dream about this for years.

Sidecar Doughnuts and Coffee

Who doesn’t love doughnuts? There are 3 reasons why people will line up for SideCar Doughnuts: freshness, softness, and warmth. In addition, the presentation at SideCar Doughnuts is absolutely amazing. In every bite, you will experience a symphony of flavor, from the texture to the presentation; just a wonderful piece of creation. It is truly worth the wait.
